A Day in Shusha – The Heart of Karabakh

During our recent expedition to Karabakh, we dedicated an entire day to exploring the city of Shusha — a place where the history, culture, and spirit of Azerbaijan can be felt at every step.

Our journey began in the village of Dashalty, located at the foot of the Shusha cliffs. It was from this very place that the legendary ascent of the special forces began during the liberation operation of Shusha in 2020.

The city itself is home to many historical and cultural landmarks: the Ganja Gates, fortress walls, the ruins of the Karabakh khans’ palace, the Carpet Museum, the Upper and Lower Govhar Agha Mosques, Kazanchi Church, the house-museum of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, the house-museum of Bulbul, the iconic Jidir Duzu plain, and much more.

There’s enough photographic material for a full exhibition, but no picture can truly capture the atmosphere of Shusha. This is a place that must be seen with your own eyes.
