I continue sharing visual stories from our recent expedition to Karabakh with the Forest School Azerbaijan team.
One of the key stops was the city of Khankendi. This place evokes mixed emotions. On the one hand, it feels abandoned: many buildings and infrastructure haven’t changed since the Soviet era. It’s like time has stood still here.
On the other hand, there’s a strong sense of hope for the future. We met students from Karabakh University, saw young families with children, and witnessed large-scale construction and restoration work in progress. Interestingly, during our visit, an international event was being held at the university with students from abroad – a powerful symbol of openness and a new beginning.
