Last weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, one of the premier astronomical research facilities in Azerbaijan.
During my visit, I participated in a stargazing session where I marveled at the night sky using some of the Observatory’s most advanced telescopes. The Observatory is home to several impressive instruments, including a 2-meter Carl Zeiss Jena reflector, a 70 cm AZT-8 photoelectric Cassegrain reflector, and a 60 cm Zeiss-600 telescope. These powerful telescopes provide astronomers and visitors alike with breathtaking views of celestial phenomena.
In addition to the night activities, I also explored the stunning local nature around the observatory, which is nestled in the Greater Caucasus Mountains at an altitude of 1,435 to 1,500 meters above sea level.
The experience was truly enlightening and a perfect blend of scientific discovery and natural beauty.
